Step 1: The Dial-Up Adapter & Dial-Up Networking

Double click your left mouse button on My Computer.
Double click your left mouse button on Dial-Up Networking*
Double click on Make New Connection.
When prompted for a name for the new connection, type "Internet Highway 2000".
Click on Next.
Enter our area code (409) and your local access number in the space provided.
Click on Next. You have now created a connection to our server. Click on Finish.
Highlight the new "Internet Highway 2000" icon by left clicking on it and go to your toolbar and select File and then Properties.
On the first screen you should see "Internet Highway 2000" and our phone number. Remove the check from the box labeled Use country code and area code. Find a tab or button labeled Server Types and click on it.
Under Type of Dial-Up Server you should see PPP: Window95, WindowsNT 3.5, Internet. If you do not, select it from the available choices.
The only box that needs to be selected under Advanced Options is Enable software compression. Under Allowed Network Protocols, only TCP/IP should be checked.
Click on the TCP/IP Settings button and a new box should appear.
Server assigned IP address should be the first thing you see highlighted. Find the button for Specify name server addresses and select it.
Key in the following numbers for your primary and secondary DNS entries.
Primary DNS: 204.255.128.1

Secondary DNS: 204.255.128.2

Make sure both check boxes and the bottom of the screen are checked. Click OK.
Click OK again. Close Dial-Up Networking.

* You may want to add 3 commas to the end of the phone number. This helps most 56K modems and many older modems connect better.

Step 2: Configuring the Internet Explorer World Wide Web Browser

Your should still be able to see Control Panel on your My Computer screen. Double click on Control Panel.
Find the icon labeled Internet and double click on it.Under the section labeled Home Page enter http://www.ih2000.net under Address.
At the top of your Internet Properties screen find the tab labeled Connection and click on it. Put a check in the box labeled Connect to the internet using a modem and then click on the Settings button.
Under Use the following Dial-Up Networking connection:, make sure Internet Highway 2000 is selected.
In the box labeled User: enter your username.
In the box labeled Password: enter your password.
Click OK. Click OK again and you should now be back in Control Panel. You may close it and afterwards close My Computer.
Your browser and Dial-Up Networking connection to IH2000 has now been configured at the optimum setting. We suggest that you shutdown and restart your computer after making these changes to ensure that they are properly stored into your computer and it recognizes the new internet system configuration.

When you are ready to connect to the internet after your computer has restarted, double click the Internet Explorer or The Internet icons on your desktop.

Optional Step: Creating a shortcut to IH2000 for users of Netscape

If you are planning on bypassing Microsoft Internet Explorer to use Netscape, follow these steps to make connecting much simpler.

Double click on My Computer, find Dial-Up Networking and double click on it.
Highlight the Internet Highway 2000 icon by single clicking on it.
Proceed to the toolbar menu and find File. Click on File and choose Create Shortcut. Windows will inform you that you may not create a shortcut where you are, but you may create one on your desktop instead. When prompted, answer Yes to create a shortcut on the desktop.
Close Dial-Up Networking and close My Computer.
You may now double click the Shortcut to Internet Highway 2000. To connect to the internet. Once connected, you may load your preferred browser, such as Netscape Communicator or Navigator.

Step 3: Microsoft Outlook Express & Outlook 97 Configuration

These instructions assume that you are running Outlook Express, the default Internet Explorer 4.0 mail client. If you have Microsoft Office 97 installed, you might be using Outlook which may share similarities with the Outlook Express program.

Double click on Outlook Express. A window will appear asking for you a mail folder location. Click OK to select the default location.
If a setup wizard appears, click Cancel to exit it. We want to configure your settings manually in order to have everything in working order.
You should now be back at the Outlook Express main screen. Find the Tools menu, click on it, and find Accounts. Click on Accounts.
Find the Add button, and choose Mail.
At the Display name prompt, enter your full name. This name will appear on outgoing email you send to other people on the internet. Click on Next.
Enter your email address in the Email address box. Then click on Next.
Both your incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers will need to be set to mail.ih2000.net. Once you have them entered, click on Next.
Your POP account should already be entered in the next box you see under Logon using but if it is not there enter your username. Type the password you use for mail and/or logging onto the internet in the box provided and then click Next.
Click Next at the Internet Account Name box.
Choose to Connect to the manually and click on Next.
Click on Finish and your mail configuration will be complete. Select Send and Receive from the toolbar menu and any mail that you have to be downloaded from our server will be retrieved by your computer.
Your basic Internet capabilities have been configured.

These instructions configure your computer to communicate over the internet via email and the world wide web. Many other services are available such as IRC (chat), FTP (file transfers), and NNTP (UseNet discussion groups). These programs are available at various sites. Their configuration will vary. If you choose to use any of these other programs, IH2000 may not be able to support you. However, we will do our best to be able to provide technical support on any internet application.

Step 3: Microsoft Internet Mail

These instructions assume that you are running Internet Mail, the default Internet Explorer 3.0 mail client. If you are using Inbox or Microsoft Exchange, your configuration will be different.

Go to your Start menu (click on Start, then Programs) Find the Internet Mail icon and click on it once.
Click on Mail and go to Options.
On the first menu (Send), check the box labeled Send messages immediately.
Find the Servers tab. Click on it.
For your POP3 (incoming mail) server, enter mail.ih2000.net.
Your SMTP (outgoing mail) folder server, enter mail.ih2000.net.
Make sure Logan using has a dot beside it.
Enter your username and password for our service in the boxes below Login using.
Click OK.
You are now ready to check your email. It is recommended that you exit your email program before attempting to check mail. Restart Internet Mail, and click the toolbar button labeled Send and Receive to retrieve and messages you may have on our server.
