Configuring Windows 98 for EONET
For users of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and Up

Step 1: The Dial-Up Adapter & Dial-Up Networking
1)
Double left click on My Computer.
2)
Double left click Dial-Up Networking.
3)
Double left click on Make New Connection.
4)
When prompted for a name for the new connection, type “EONET” without the quotes.
5)
Click on Next.
6)
Do NOT enter an area code. If
there is one, delete it. Enter your local access number (above) in the space
provided.
7)
Click on Next. You have now created a connection to our server.
Click on Finish.
8)
Right click on the new “EONET”
icon and then left click on Properties.
9)
On the first screen you should see “EONET”
and our phone number. Remove the check from the box labeled Use area code and
dialing properties. Find a tab or button labeled Server Types and
left click on it.
10)
The only box that should be selected under Advanced Options is Enable Software Compression. Under Allowed Network
Protocols, only TCP/IP should be checked.
11) Click OK again. Close Dial-Up Networking.
Step 2: Configuring the Internet Explorer World Wide Web Browser
1) Go to the desktop (main start-up screen).
2) Find the icon labeled Internet Explorer (a blue “e”) on the desktop (not the little “e” on the bar at the bottom) and right click on it. A menu will pop up. Left click on Properties.
3) At the top of your Internet Properties screen find the tab labeled Connection and left click on it. Put a dot in the option labeled Always dial my default connection.
4) If EONET is not the default connection, select it and click Set as Default.
5) Click Apply and then OK.
6) You should now be back at the desktop.
7) When you are ready to connect to the Internet, double-left-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop.
8) In the Connect to box, enter your user name and password. They should be in small letters with no spaces.
9) If you wish, check the Save Password and Connect Automatically boxes.
10) Click Connect. That should connect you to the Internet.

Step 3: Microsoft Outlook Express & Outlook Configuration
These instructions assume that you are running Outlook Express, the default Internet
Explorer mail program.
1) Double click on Outlook Express. A window may appear asking you for a mail
folder location. Click OK to select the default location.
2) If a setup wizard appears, click Cancel to exit it. We want to configure your settings
manually in order to have everything in working order.
3) You should now be back at the Outlook Express main screen. Find the Tools menu, click on it, and find Accounts. Click on Accounts. Click the Mail tab.
4) Click the Add button and click Mail.
5) At the Display name prompt, enter your full name. This name will appear on outgoing email you send to other people on the Internet. Click on Next.
6) Enter your email address ([email protected]) in the Email address box. Then click on Next.
7) Both your incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers will need to be set to mail.eonet.net. Once you have them entered, click on Next.
8) Your account name should be your entire email address ([email protected]). Type the password you use for mail and/or logging onto the Internet in the box provided (click Save Password if you desire) and then click Next.
9) Click on Finish and your mail configuration will be complete. Select Send and Receive from the toolbar menu, and any mail that you have to be downloaded from our server will be retrieved by you computer.
Your basic Internet capabilities have been configured.
