Configuring Windows ME for use with EONET

For users of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5 &6.0

      The Dial-Up Adapter & Dial-Up Networking

 

1.     Double click your left mouse button on My Computer.

2.     Double click your left mouse button on Control Panel.

3.      Double click your left mouse button on Dial-up Networking.

4.      Click Next or double left click on Make New Connection.

5.      When prompted for a name for the new connection, type “EONET”.

6.      Click Next.

7.      Delete any area code and enter our access number (above) in the space provided.

8.      Click Next.

9.      Click Finish.

10.  Close Dial-up Networking by clicking the X in the upper right hand corner.

 

 

Step 2:  Configuring the Internet Explorer World Wide Web Browser

 

1.      Go back to the desktop (main start-up screen).

2.      Find the icon labeled Internet Explorer (a blue “e”) and right click on it.  A menu will pop up.  Left click on Properties.  Under the section labeled Home Page enter www.eonet.net under Address.

3.      At the top of your Internet Properties screen find the tab labeled Connection and click on it.  Put a dot in the option labeled Always dial my default connection.

4.      If EONET is not the default connection, select it and click Set as default.

5.      Click Apply and then OK.

6.      You should now be back at the desktop.

7.      Now you should restart your computer to save these settings.

8.      When you are ready to connect to the Internet after your computer has restarted, double-left-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop.

9.      In the Connect to box, enter your user name and password.  They should be in small letters with no spaces.

10.  If you wish, check the Save Password and Connect Automatically boxes. 

11.  Click Connect and you should connect to the Internet and go to the EONET web site.

Step 3:  Microsoft Outlook Express & Outlook Configuration

 

These instructions assume that you are running Outlook Express.  If you have Microsoft Office 97 or 2000 installed, you  might  be using Outlook, which shares similarities with the Outlook Express program.

 

  1. Double click on Outlook Express.  A window may appear asking you for a mail           

            folder location.  Click OK to select the default location.

           

      (If a setup wizard appears, click Cancel to exit it.  We want to configure your settings 

       manually.)

 

  1.  You should now be back at the Outlook Express main screen.  Find the Tools menu, click on it, and find Accounts.  Click on Accounts.  Click the Mail tab.
  2. Find the Add button, and choose Mail.
  3. At the Display name prompt, enter your full name.  This name will appear on outgoing email you send to other people on the Internet.  Click on Next.
  4. Enter your email address in the Email address box.  Then click on Next.
  5. Both your incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers will need to be set to mail.eonet.net.  Once you have them entered, click on Next.
  6. Your POP account name should already be entered in the next box you see under Logon using but you need to add the “@eonet.net so that your entire email address is in that box.  Type the password you use for mail and/or logging onto the Internet in the box provided (click Save Password if you desire) and then click  NEXT.
  7. Click on Finish and your mail configuration will be complete.  Select Send and Receive from the toolbar menu, and any mail that you have to be downloaded from our server will be retrieved by you computer.

 

 

     Your basic Internet capabilities have been configured.

 

These instructions configure your computer to communicate over the Internet via email and the World Wide Web.
