Galveston Fishing Pier 5-02-03
Got out for a little while and headed for the Galveston Fishing Pier. I figured it would be packed, but it was ok. Got there to hear about a 40" ling caught, that meant excitement in my book. Got out, put out some slide lines and not a thing. There were sharks and rays being caught by various fishermen on the pier, but on the ends ot the t-head mostly, where I never get to get. Anyway, we were playing around freelining shrimp and caught a spanish mac. First one for me to ever catch. Then I put on a spoon due to someone talking on the board about spoons and Macs. First cast, BAM, it was nailed, when it was hooked and going nuts in the water, about 2 dozen more swarmed it like chicken dolphin or something. That went on for about 45 minutes and stopped. Ended up with 5 keepers and a lot of fun. I love watching fish in the clean green water nail a bait near the surface. Nothing like it. Water was green from about the middle to the end. People were catching gafftop, reds, small shark to 4 ft, and a few pompano were caught. Nice trip today.
