I have always admired applique work but had never attempted to try it until recently. It is my new found passion! I will be adding some of my favorite applique patterns found all over the "net" plus a few I designed myself and links to some great sites with info all about the various techniques!
The following is a project I recently presented as a gift to a lifelong friend of mine, Faye, and her husband, Donald. Donald wrote a cute little poem some time back that pertains to a real life story. I wanted to illustrate this poem with a small quilt. Pictured here are the blocks and a copy of the poem. I finally finshed the quilt and will have a picture up soon!
Shade
In
my back yard there is a tree
That’s
not where it’s supposed to be.
My wife
she found the tree on sale
And
there she placed it by the well.
She said
to me that very day
That
if I could to find a way
To move
this tree out of this space
And
plant it in some better place.
I wiped
my brow it seemed like toil
With
just a spade into the soil
To dig
a hole both wide and deep
In which
to place this tree for keep.
I said
to her, “It might be hard
To move
this tree around the yard
Why
not we leave it here a spell,
In this
nice spot beside the well.”
Now ‘neath
this giant the tree has made
We sit
and swing there in the shade
We talk
and laugh and read the mail
And
prop our feet upon the well.
